Temasek Review unearths an interesting quote from last Sunday:

In his speech at a grassroots event at Tanjong Pagar, MM Lee used the examples of Law Minister K. Shanmugam, an MP of Sembawang GRC, and Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Indranee Rajah to drive home his point.

Mr Shanmugam, Mr Lee said, could make $6 million a year while in private practice, but now makes $1.5 million a year as a minister.

‘(Opposition MP) Low Thia Khiang says, ‘Oh, so much money.’ I tell you honestly, if I am not a minister, I myself could make two or three times what I am making now. Every time I talk to foreign companies, they offer me $100,000. What do I do with the money? I give it (away) for scholarships, donate to it schools,’ he added.

MM Lee did not reveal the identities of the foreign companies which offer him the sum. MM Lee sits on the board of many international companies including Citigroup before he step down last year.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

This is April Wong from Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide from Hong Kong. One of our clients within the Las Vegas Sands (LVS) Group from US will be opening a 6 star rated mansions in 2010 Macau China. Ogilvy PR Worldwide Hong Kong is currently planning a series of events for LVS and one of the highlight is to include world influential political leaders to give speeches. Our client’ targeted segments are those who are who have spending power over $HK10 million on regular basis and CEO level personalities from different parts of the world, especially Mainland China. These guests will only be invited to the mansion by invitation thus this speaking engagement event is highly exclusive. This mansion is regarded as Macau China’s most luxurious and extravagant hospitality project ever and LVS and Ogilvy would be delighted if Mr. Lee Kuan Yew can be the guest speaker.

This would be a great opportunity for social networking, gaining media exposure and share Mr. Lee Kuan Yew insightful ideas. As for now, we foresee the speech should be around 45 minutes to 1 hour, topic of speech is open for discussion with Mr. Lee Kuan Yew.

Please kindly advise Mr. Lee Kuan Yew availability in year 2010 (how early in advance should we schedule?), as well as price quotation and all incurred costs for Mr. Lee Kuan Yew’s stay in Macau China. Our partnership terms are highly flexible thus please call me for any discussions or if you have any inquiries. In addition, may you also kindly advise all relevant terms and conditions if applicable for costs etc.

Your prompt response is very much appreciated and looks forward to hear from you soon.

Please tell me this is a joke….if not, you are aware that this is not Lee Kuan Yew’s personal website? Perhaps you should browse through some of the content. I can help you in terms of a price quotation though should you get hold of the man…how about $100, 000? Although he doesn’t cash the cheque’s himself according to this post so perhaps just expenses and a small dontation will suffice…

Is $100,000 enough ? I mean $100,000 especially it being given to charity is never enough. With so many charities out there both here and the rest of the world how can $100,000 be enough to go round?

If he can earn much more like he claims then surely $100,000 is an insult to his market worth ? I think he should at ask for a minimum of $1,000,000 so that, at least, there is more to go round the distribution channel for the charities.

April Wong should be fired from her job for being that stupid. But she probably thinks her stupidity was coming to this website to source for LKY’s time. One day she might realize, that’s the mild stupidity part. True stupidity is the contents of her post.

Is Ogilvy PR in Hong Kong for real ? Soliciting for such a serious matter indiscrimately through an international audience and not specifically directing it to the bootlickers of LKY ? Let me see, 1 April next year has been brought forward?
