MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew yesterday called on Sultan Ibrahim Ismail of Johor at the Istana Besar here to express his condolences over the death of the latter’s father, the late Sultan Iskandar Ismail.

During their 30-minute meeting in the palace’s throne room yesterday afternoon, Sultan Ibrahim noted that MM Lee had known his great-grandfather, his grandfather and his father.

Sultan Ibrahim’s great-grand-father, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, ruled Johor from 1895 to 1959, the year Mr Lee became Prime Minister.
