Gopalan: “My last post about Singapore’s Lee Kuan Yew was a hoax.”

Gopalan Nair confesses to the hoax that left Singapore’s blogsphere atwitter.  Singapore Dissident:

My last post in this blog, Saturday, March 6, 2010 “Singapore strongman 87 year old Lee Kuan Yew suffers massive heart attack“, was a hoax. But the hoax was deliberately written by me. It was a deliberate attempt to highlight how tenuous Singapore really is, with all power in the island vested in one man, and the dire consequences to the island of his parting. …

This is what I have been telling Singaporeans all along. I do not really know one way or the other whether Lee Kuan Yew has had any heart attacks because even if he did, as is the custom in Stalinist closed societies, you are not going to be told of it.

At the same time, I do not know if the 87 year old octogenarian had run the mile in under 3 minutes yesterday.

In fact I don’t know anything. And neither do you. And that my friends is the story of living in Lee Kuan Yew’s Singapore.

  1. The only thing this says of you Mr. Nair is that you deliberately put it up to up the game, the game of conning people into thinking you have supporting facts and a credible cause, which you haven’t. All this steam is to wind up a public that still might believe lawyers tell the truth, but they don’t and you are one of such. A Charlatan who engages in masses of wordage quite common to lawyers. You should be listed in bent lawyers and most likely will be…if you can’t carry your cause with truthful investigation based on evidence that isn’t subject to interpretation you might be fit to lead this campaign for those people who might need help. But your crusade lacks credibility and followers…they might be another one of your hoax calls.

Dear Mr Hoax, thank you very much for stirring this piece of news in us, which in a way brought us to our awareness on how much MM Lee meant to us.
We might be kept in the dark on many issues internally in Singapore however it might not be a bad thing after all. Singapore might not be the best Country if you want freedom in everything. But what does freedom do for u anyway if it just means having psychotic gunners or murderers running in the streets. Although we are restricted in some ways, we are getting along fine and happy. That is most important and definately, we have to thank MM Lee for spending his lifetime building our Country, bringing us to where we are now. And may i ask u, if you are the one running Singapore, would u have done it as successfully as him? I seriously doubt so as everyone can see u are wasting your time writing nonsensical blogs as such. Pls put your time and efforts and your so called writing skills to a more useful cause.

I understand Gopalan Nair is no longer a Singaporean. Yet he got the cheek to call himself Singaporean Dissident. Please lah, stop using the term Singaporean and embarrass all the loyal Singaporean citizens who love their country and its founding father. He does not have the guts to face Singapore’s strict laws on lies and liars and chose to hide in a place where he can lie without having to face the consequences. I visited his blog hoping to find out how this lie originated. This will be my first and last time. It’s a waste of time reading utter rubbish.

    Grudging Gopalan,

Please pardon the name, as I am merely mimicking you who had been so abashedly naming others in your articles. Then again the tone in your writing do carry an over whelming sense of bitterness.

I wonder if you had any substantial and tangible personal contact time with your subjects to sincerely understand them, to have so many negative adjectives thrown at them while your “About Me” tries so hard playing the pathetic puppy, scoring political mileage through sympathy.

You seemed to be promoting justice and principal but the writings appear to be suffering from compassion fatigue. One cannot help but to hear you shouting “this is personal” especially when one is to consider your name.

Anyway, I am not here to judge you but to say “let the person without sin to throw the first stone”. If you are unhappy someone “threw a stone” at you and you are doing it to others now, what difference is there between the two of you. Yes, you will probably say that I do not understand your situation back then, well like I said, I am not here to judge you. And how can your clients trust you to be impartial in handling their interests.

A piece of sincere advice for you is to seek spiritual enlightenment and move on.

    Live and let live.
